Details Images

Overview:

Angkor Wat is a truly remarkable site and brings in millions of dollars every day to the city of Siem Reap. Unfortunately little of this money makes its way to the people who need it the most. On this trip experience one of our world’s ancient wonders while bringing hope to a generation!
Sightseeing choices – Angkor Wat,and more
Volunteer tasks – construction of school, office or library, painting of school, office or library installation of solar panels, teaching English

In 2001 the Sangkheum Center for Children was established as a project with the main objective of preventing the increase of street children in Siem Reap.

The focus was set on prevention and on eliminating social and economic factors which might lead to life of abandonment and destitution. We started working with local partner organizations and village leaders to identify children most in need and evaluate how we could best support the child. A comprehensive program was created, not only to support the resident children, but also the children within the community through education, training, social and medical support.

Location:

Cambodia has a population of nearly 14 million and is situated in the South East Asian Mekong region, bordered by Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.

Trip notes & Inclusions:

Cambodians are among the poorest people in the world with per capita annual incomes of under US $300. 40% of the population is living on less than $1 per day.
